Janell Mary Wilson

August 4, 1938 — May 5, 2024

Abbeville- Janell Mary Wilson was called to heaven on May 8, 2024. She was born August 4, 1938, in Delcambre, LA to the late Howard John Robertson, Sr. and Nellie Rankins Robertson. She later graduated from James A. Herod High School, married her husband, Robert, and moved to Abbeville, LA.

Janell worked in the Vermilion Parish School system as a substitute teacher and bus monitor. “Mrs. Wilson” was frequently requested by teachers who valued both the stern guidance and light-hearted playfulness she displayed when substituting their classes. She enjoyed playing BINGO, was a sports fanatic (a “die-hard” Saints fan), and was an active volunteer for her church, St. Theresa Catholic Church. Janell was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Court #77 Knights of Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary (Third Degree), and St. Paul Chapter #3 Ladies of Grace Knights of Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary (Fourth Degree). Lady Janell Wilson was initiated into the Auxiliary on June 6, 1961, and was a charter member of the St. Paul Chapter #3.

Once diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, Janell relocated to Dallas, TX where she was able to spend precious time and live out the rest of her days with her only son, Brian. Janell had no grandchildren, but held a special relationship with her grand nieces and nephews (Danielle, Madison, TJ, AJ, and Bentley) whom she loved, adored, and CONSTANTLY bragged about.

Janell will always be remembered for her quick wit, straightforwardness, fashionable style, and her warm smile. She was always ready to “clap back” and enjoyed laughing with, and sometimes at, others. Whether traveling to the casino with her sister, Irene, or attending family functions and other social gatherings, Janell greatly valued spending time with others. She enjoyed the occasional “heated discussions” she had with Brian, but even more so treasured the time she spent with him reminiscing about their vacations and other fond memories they shared with her husband, Bob-E. Janell was a woman of strong faith, and had a bright soul that touched everyone she met. She made a lasting impression on many lives and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Janell was preceded in death by her parents Howard and Nellie Robertson; two infant sons; her husband, Robert Joseph “Bob-E” Wilson; one sister, Melva Zenon; and three brothers: Maxie Robertson, Marshall Robertson, and Howard Robertson.

She leaves to mourn her passing one son, Brian Wilson; one sister, Irene Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

“My Guiding Angel”
A mother is special; she's more than a friend.
Whenever you need her, she'll give you a hand.
She'll lead you and guide you in all that you do,
Try all that she can, just to see you get through.
Good times and bad times, she's there for it all;
to help you be proud, and always stand tall.
She'll love you through quarrels and even big fights,
or heart-to-heart chats on cold lonely nights.
My mother was the greatest that I've ever known.
I think God made my mother like He'd make his own.
A praiser, a helper, an encourager too,
there was nothing in this world that she wouldn't do.
To help me succeed, she did all that she could.
She guided my steps, and made sure I was good.
So I want to say thank you, for all that you’ve done.
It was a pleasure to have you Mom, and I’m proud to be your son.
