Kaplan—Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, August 9, 2024 at Vincent Funeral Home in Kaplan honoring the life of Jean "Jeb" Baptiste Callahan, 89, who died Monday, August 5, 2024 at his home. Jeb was a dedicated commercial fisherman, a profession he embraced with unwavering commitment until he was 78. His love for the water and the outdoors was further exemplified through his ownership of White Lake Landing & Oilfield Dock, a business he ran with pride and dedication.

A man of diverse interests, Jeb found joy in many activities. He loved reading and could always be found with a good book nearby. His love for fishing extended beyond his profession, becoming a cherished pastime. He also had a profound love for baseball, often seen cheering for his favorite teams. His green thumb was evident in his bountiful garden, where he spent a lot of time nurturing his plants.

Music was another of Jeb's great loves. He was a talented harmonica player and had a particular fondness for French music, a reflection of his deep appreciation for his heritage. Jeb's passion for duck hunting was shared with his close friends, with whom he created many cherished memories. He was a proud Cajun French speaker, and he enjoyed talking with others in our culture’s treasured language.

Jeb's family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the team at Heart of Hospice and Anna Ramirez for their exceptional care and compassion during this past year. Their support and kindness provided immense comfort to Jeb and his loved ones.

Jeb Callahan's legacy is one of a life well-lived, filled with love, laughter, and adventure. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Eva R. Callahan; two sons, Sheb Callahan (Cathy) of Cow Island, and Craig Callahan (Lynette) of Kaplan; four grandchildren, Chase Callahan and his fiancée Rosario Gamez, Derek Callahan (Anna-Vaughan), Lauren Gaspard (Payton), and Morgan Callahan; three great-grandchildren, Liam, Natalie, and Gabriel Callahan; and one brother, Lanis Callahan of Kaplan.
