John "Badau" Edward Dartez

Kaplan—Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan honoring the life of John "Badau" Edward Dartez, 84, who passed away Saturday, December 24, 2022 at his residence.  He will be laid to rest at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Cemetery with Reverend Stephen Irudayasamy officiating the services.  Serving as pallbearers will be Marcus Stelly, Brandon Dartez, Dustin Stelly, Zachary Moreno, Barrett Stelly, Evan Dartez, Brock Moreno and Jason Kemp.

Edward affectionately known to friends and family as “Badau” was an avid outdoors man and cattleman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working his cattle and his horses. Edward and the love of his life, Alva Jane, were married for 63 years. They enjoyed a life full of family, cattle, travels to the mountains, music shows, and bus and casino trips. Their story started on 1011 North Jackson Street in a tiny house full of love. Together withtheir neighbors, Jeb and Anna, their families grew together and shared wonderful memories. He was a generous, giving father and grandfather.

Edward served in the Louisiana National Guard for 8 years. He worked for the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development for 32 years. He was a member of the Vermilion Parish Cattleman’s Association and enjoyed many trips and suppers with his fellow members and friends. A devoted catholic, he was a long term usher at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church and a Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus Council 2913.

He is survived by his wife, Alva Jane Schexnaider Dartez; his son, Randal Dartez and his wife, Yvette; his daughter, Rebecca Dartez Moreno and her husband, J.B.; his sisters, Anna Guidry and Betty Girouard (Boyd); his eight grandchildren, Marcus Stelly (Brook), Brock Moreno (Ellen), Dustin Stelly, Zachary Moreno (Kristen), Barrett Stelly, Brandon Dartez (Lauren), Brittany Dartez (Jason) and Evan Dartez (Kaitlyn); and his 15 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walton “Perou” and Marie “Shine” Dartez; his brother-in-law, Francis “Jeb” Guidry; and his great grandchild, Connor Gavin Kemp.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Lamm Home Care and Hospice, especially Rachel, Debbie, Ashley and Patty for their compassion and grace during our time of need.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Ave., on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary being prayed at 6:00 PM; Wednesday, December 28, 2022 from 8:00 AM until .
