John "Farrell" Hebert

October 15, 1941 — December 24, 2021

Kaplan—Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, January  3, 2022 at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan honoring the life of John “Farrell” Hebert, 80. “Farrell” as he was known to friends and family, declared he “was done here”, proceeded to recline, then peacefully passed away Friday, December 24, 2021 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center dying as he lived, in his own fashion. He will be laid to rest at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Cemetery with Deacon William "Billy" Vincent officiating the services. Pallbearers include his grandsons, Andre’ and Michael Hebert; nephews, Steven, Clint and Seth Stansbury; and his godchild, Kendall Broussard. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandson, Paden Langlinais, his brother-in-law, Ervin “Albert” Stansbury, Jr. and his son-in-law, Tony Langlinais.

Farrell entered this life on October 15, 1941, to Alton and Odelia Montey Hebert. He was raised on the family rice and cattle farm south of Kaplan, LA.  Shortly after his graduation in 1959, he joined the Navy, proudly serving on the U.S.S. Oriskany aircraft carrier as a weapons specialist, serving in the Pacific Zone.  Upon his discharge from the service, he returned to the family farm in Kaplan, and was a rice farmer until his retirement in 1990.

For those that knew him, they will greatly miss his quirky sense of humor; knowledge of a vast array of subjects, trivial matters; his thirst for world history; engineering and the like being quenched by his love of reading; his talent for drawing, painting, shooting pool, chess moves, and slapjack.  He enjoyed traveling the East and West Coast and all points in between, making much needed “pitstops” where casinos were conveniently located.  By far, making memories with his family, particularly his grandchildren, was very important to him, doing his best to attend as many school and extracurricular activities that he could.  He was also a member of the local chapter of the American Legion.

Left behind to share the memories of his life are his wife of 57 years, Sharon Stansbury Hebert, formerly of Gueydan, LA; one son, Brian David Hebert of Youngsville; one daughter, Saretta H. Langlinais and his favorite son-in-law, Tony of Erath; seven grandchildren, Alaina, Andre’ and Michael Hebert, Paden, Angelle, Ami and Ava Langlinais; and one great grandchild, Reese Langlinais; his godchildren, Garland Langlinais,  Kendall Broussard, and Lynnelle S. Long; several in-laws and outlaws; many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews, all of which have great stories to tell of fun on the farm.

He was welcomed by his family that left before him including his father, Alton J. Hebert; mother, Odelia Montey Hebert; brother, Garland Charles Hebert; and sister, Cheryl Ann Hebert.

“Well Dad, over the past 32 years you literally had nine plus lives, proving to be a true medical miracle, fooling the doctors and even outliving most of them.  We are grateful that we needed you more and thankful you were not done then, but we will be okay that you are “done here” now.  See ya later alligator, after while crocodile, see you soon baboon and Bonsoir.”

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation in his memory to the Fisher House Foundation, which assists veterans and their families in many different ways at https://fisherhouse.org or a charity of your choice.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Ave., on Monday, January  3, 2022 from 9:00 AM until the time of the services at 2:00 PM with a rosary being prayed at 11:00 AM.
