John "J D" Davis Villejoin

January 10, 1944 — September 17, 2020

Kaplan—A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church honoring the life of John Davis Villejoin, who died Thursday, September 17, 2020 at his residence.  He will be laid to rest at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Cemetery with Reverend Palthasar Arrockia Doss officiating the services. Serving as pallbearers will be Joshua Hardy, Irvin Cates, Corey Picard, Lynn Fournet, and Frankie Abshire. Honorary pallbearer will be Brook Istre.

During his life he enjoyed spending time with his daughters and grandchildren. He liked working outside in his gardens and had a tremendous love for music.

He began his musical career when he was in high school, working little musician jobs. Throughout his many years playing his saxophone, he played in many large bands, starting with Bruce and the Rhythm Kings.  He also played in many other bands including Kenny and the Jokers, The Heartbreakers, The Sensations, and The Ally Cats. Making many lifelong friends along the way such as Warren Storm, Lil Alfred, Willie Tee, Tommy McKain, T. K. Hulin, Percy Sledge, G. G. Shinn, and Warren Ceasar.

He is survived by his two daughters, Stephanie Gaspard and her husband, Wayne of Kaplan and Ann Kathy Hopkins and her husband, Harry of Delcambre; his two granddaughters, Tiffany Hardy and her husband, Joshua and Courtney Gaspard; his two great grandchildren, Madison and Rylan Hardy;  his friend, Linda Monic, and his brother, Lynn Fournet.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Mary Ann Broussard Villejoin; and his parents, Edes Villejoin and the former Bernice Harrington.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Ave., on Friday, September 18, 2020 from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary being prayed at 6:00 PM; Saturday, September 19, 2020 from 8:00 AM until the procession departs for the church at 9:45 AM.
