Lanest Campbell

October 13, 1926 — December 1, 2020

Kaplan—A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, December 5, 2020 at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church honoring the life of Lanest Campbell, 94, who passed away on Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at his residence. He will be laid to rest at LeMaire Cemetery with Reverend Mark Miley officiating the services. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons, Brady Campbell, Ryan Campbell, Jonathan Perrin, Courtney Campbell, Colby Campbell, and John Boulet.

Lanest was known as a very humble and soft spoken man with a kind spirit. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing music which included the guitar and fiddle. He also loved building boats and cabinetry for others in his spare time. He was a general farmer until he went into the United States Army. He served in the Pacific Theater during WWII and was on the first military ship to arrive on the mainland of Japan. After serving his country he returned home and made a living by fur trapping and became a carpenter by trade. He obtained several awards for his meticulous work and craftsmanship.

He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Mary Schexneider Campbell of Kaplan; one daughter, Jean Campbell Huval and her husband, Brud of Kaplan; two sons, Lonnie Campbell and his wife, Cathy of Kaplan and Errol Campbell and his wife, Kay of Kaplan; one sister, Hazel Campbell Harrington of Lufkin, TX; 15 grandchildren, Kristie Boulet, Payton Tarver, Taylor Motlow, Angie Robicheaux, Kim Perrin, Jonathan  Perrin, Jessica Perrin, Mandy Ortego, Marshal Hebert, Angela Touchet, Courtney Campbell, Colby Campbell, Ashley Campbell, Brady Campbell, and Ryan Campbell; and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Peggy Campbell Motlow; his parents, Ellas Campbell and the former Elline Broussard; two brothers, Daniel "Beb" Campbell and Elson (BB) Campbell; and one sister, Velta Campbell Broussard.

The family would like to thank Dr. Scott Bergeaux and his staff, Lamm Family Care, and his sitter, Gwen Campbell for their special care.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Ave., on Saturday, December 5, 2020 from 9:00 AM until 12:45 PM with a rosary being prayed at 11:00 AM.
