Linda Cecile Meaux Abshire

Kaplan—A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, September 28, 2023 at St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church honoring the life of Linda Cecile Meaux Abshire, 78, of Lafayette who passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 24, 2023.  She will be laid to rest at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Cemetery with Reverend Stephen Sahayaraj Irudayasamy officiating the services.

Linda was born on September 26, 1944 in Kaplan, LA to Remic Meaux and the former Pauline Hebert. As a child, Linda loved to play games and enjoyed dancing with her friends. She graduated from Kaplan High School in 1962, and continued her education at the University of Southwestern Louisiana (UL). On September 4, 1965, she married her high school sweetheart, Richard Abshire. Together they raised two daughters and recently celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary.

Linda enjoyed spending time with her family as well as friends she had since high school, and was very involved in organizing her class reunions. She also loved playing cards and going to the casino. She and Richard loved to dance, and traveled to many beautiful places including Alaska, Hawaii and Europe. Linda was a natural artist, spending several years creating beautiful paintings that are displayed throughout her home.

She is survived by her loving husband, Richard Abshire; two daughters, Sherrie (Brian Schiel) and Tricia Eggerding; two grandchildren, Brandon Eggerding and Katie Eggerding; one brother, Ken Meaux (Terry); one sister, Darlene Greene (Kirk); one nephew, Mitchell Greene (Ashlyn); and many cousins she adored.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Marion Meaux.

She will be remembered always by her family as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. A celebration of Linda's life will be on Thursday, September 28, 2023 at Vincent Funeral Home, 300 N. Eleazar Ave., Kaplan, LA. Visitation will be observed from 9:00 AM until 1:45 PM when the procession departs for the church. A rosary will be prayed at 10:30 AM.
