It is with heavy hearts and great love that we remember the life of Lloyd Francis Mire who passed from this world on August 29, 2020 at the age of 90.  A Kaplan native, he was born into a large Cajun family and was one of twelve children. He grew up with great hardships, as did many of the times. However, he had an incredibly strong work ethic and led a successful, colorful life. He became a superb mechanic, working mostly on farm machinery for multiple companies in his early years. He later went on to work in the oilfield where he began as a roughneck, spent most of his career as a driller, and eventually became a tool pusher. He was highly respected and trained many people, some of which are still working today. He and his wife, Jean valued higher education and instilled this importance in their children as well, sending all five of them to college. They would go on to receive bachelors, masters, and doctorate level degrees.

During his life, he enjoyed working in his very large garden, harvesting his crawfish ponds, and even hosting bourré tournaments in his later years.  He was known for his enduring sense of humor and never missed an opportunity for a quick-witted joke. He loved to share a laugh with anyone he met. Also known by his nickname “Beesho”, he was extremely friendly and always appreciated the company of others. He especially enjoyed visiting with his fellow Cajun people of his own generation and being able to converse completely in Cajun French with them. He is remembered for his remarkable strength, pulling through and recovering from multiple hospital admits in his later years, even when health personnel thought it impossible. Husband, father, grandfather, brother, jokester, handyman, and friend, strong until the very end, he will never be forgotten.

He is survived by his son, Kerry Mire and his wife, Joetta; his three daughters, Deborah Meaux and her husband, Gregg, Patricia Mire-Watson and her husband, Glen, and Jessica Riebel and her husband, Duane; nine grandchildren, Chad Mire and his wife, Crystal, Mitch Meaux and his wife, Brooke, Marcell Gary and her wife, Tara, Emily Thibodeaux, Melanie Myers and her husband, Brian, Madilyn Meaux, Blake Riebel, Melissa Watson, and Scott Riebel; his 12 great grandchildren, Gage Meaux, Jude Meaux, Gracyn Meaux, Asher Meaux, Lydia Meaux, Cole Mire, Jack Mire, Stella Mire, Luke Clement, Oliver Gary, Mason Myers and Madison Myers; and his three brothers, Edward Sabra Mire, Harry Mire, and Harris Mire.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Ella Jean Villejoin Mire; his parents, Theonis and Olite Mire; his daughter, Sherline Mire LeBoeuf; his granddaughter, Erica Faith Mire; his brothers, Revis, Ernest, Elton, Ellis, Allison, and Joseph; and his sisters, Olive and Helen Mire.

Due to the current pandemic, the family requests that services to the public be limited to the graveside.
