Lovelace Joseph Monic

December 22, 1944 — December 26, 2020

Kaplan—A good man has left this earth to return home to God, his parents, siblings and friends.

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 PM on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan honoring the life of Lovelace Joseph Monic, 76, who died Saturday, December 26, 2020 at his residence.  He will be laid to rest with Deacon William "Billy" Vincent officiating the services.

Lovelace was a military veteran having served in the Army from 1966 to 1968. He worked offshore in production for most of his life having survived a major helicopter crash enroute to platform and finally retiring in 1996, after suffering a major heart attack and stroke. Everyone remembers Lovelace as having a good time in every bar in Kaplan laughing with friends, buying everyone drinks or shooting pool. He drank with the best of them and was known for a good throw down BBQ at home when he was in from offshore and would listen to George Jones and Merle Haggard extremely loud. A good ole card game always followed with lots of quarters to gobble up the next day by his kids.

Lovelace was also a talented artist. He created beautiful oil paintings and there was not anything he couldn't paint on. Getting him to paint on oyster shells and bottles was always a challenge, but in the end, he gave in and created a beautiful masterpiece. He took one lesson and learned the rest on his own. His entire house is filled with cherished paintings he leaves behind for his family. Most of the time he gave away his paintings and if you are fortunate to have one of his paintings, consider yourself lucky. He was a gentle giant who never said goodbye on the phone, always just hanging up on you. He loved gumbo, loved cake, but especially loved donuts and would always bring a box to his grandkids, Saydie, Stone, and Sonny on the weekends. He always brought his tupperware with him to fix him some leftovers and was always the first one to leave to go nap. His yard was always immaculate and his vehicles were impeccably cleaned. He always came to every birth of his grandkids, or whatever medical issues you had, and always helped his family out whenever they needed. He always had money in his wallet and would hand out dollar bills to his grandkids in case they needed some. His family always got a kick out of him when he would zip lock instructions and receipts with the date of appliances he purchased and then realized how smart that was. Lovelace would also have cookies in his pockets for the dogs when he visited.  He always helped people out especially his neighbors and recently was heavily involved with the veterans in Kaplan helping out at the American Legion.

He is survived by by his loving wife of 50 years, Dorcas, who he doted on every minute of the day; his first born who they always say was an accident, Melissa and her husband, Deacon Bill Vincent and his second daughter, who they say was planned, Samantha and her husband, Shawn Tucker; his five grandchildren, starting with his first born "favorite", Michael Vincent, then his first girl, Cecily Vincent, Saydie Tucker known as "Saydie Bug", and two handsome twins, Stone and Sonny Tucker; his first great granddaughter, Evelyn Vincent, was born in 2018. According to his grandkids, he was the greatest paw paw! He is also survived by his only brother, Shelton Monic and wife, Mary.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Alice Monic; brother, Calvin Monic; and only sister, Carla Sue Monic.

He was cremated because he always said he didn't want people staring at him, so instead we will show his beautiful paintings at the wake that people can stare at instead.

A big thank you to his doctors who always cared for him during his years with his heart issues, always fixing him and putting more sticks in him to continue to add more years.

He will be greatly missed, but never forgotten. His light shines in the sunrises he painted that we can continue to reflect on every day.

The family requires all guest wear a face covering and maintain social distancing at the funeral home. Thank you for understanding during these unprecedented times.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Ave., on Saturday, January 16, 2021 from 9:00 AM until the time of the services at 1:30 PM with a rosary being prayed at 1:00 PM.
