Margie Ann Campisi

June 21, 1933 — November 8, 2021

Abbeville- A Mass of Celebration will be held on Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Church, at 10:00 am with a rosary being recited at 9:00 am, celebrating the life of Margie Thibodeaux Campisi with Fr. Francois Sainte-Marie officiating.

Margie Campisi, 88, passed away peacefully on Monday November 8, at Abbeville General Hospital with her only son Sam David Campisi, Jr. and her friend Anita Levy by her side.

Margie, member of the Vermilion Parish Cattlewomen, for over 20 years, served on the Board of Directors for three years.  Being a big supporter of the Vermilion Parish 4-H Program, Margie sometimes participated as a judge, as well as purchasing at the parish livestock show and sale.   Once a year Margie worked with the Chairman of the State Queen Pageant in Baton Rouge, where she volunteered to help with the Queen’s luncheon at the State Convention.  She also volunteered at the State Fair in Shreveport where she helped work in the kitchen serving meals and doing whatever was needed to help.  In 2018 Margie was honored by the Louisiana Cattle Festival Association by being named the “Louisiana Cattle Festival Ambassador.”

Abbeville General Hospital also held a special place in Margie’s heart as well.  She became a volunteer in the gift shop for a little over 26 years.  If she wasn’t in the gift shop, you could always find her down the halls of the corridor giving hugs and chatting with the employees.

Margie was one of the original volunteers who helped start Relay for Life in Vermilion Parish, where she remained until her passing.  In January of 2018, Margie, a 10-year breast cancer survivor, became an honorary member of the Board of Directors of the Levy Cancer Foundation, where she helped raise money for cancer patients in Vermilion Parish.  She was also awarded a “Courage Award” at the Levy Cancer Foundation Annual Pink Event in 2018 for her courage and struggles of having breast cancer.

Margie Thibodeaux Campisi, originally from Jeff Davis Parish, was the oldest of ten siblings born to Elton and Zilda Guidry Thibodeaux.  In 1955, she met the love of her life, Sam Campisi, Sr. and moved to Vermilion Parish where she lived until her passing.  She is survived by her only child, Sam David Campisi, Jr., whom she loved dearly.  Sam would like to personally thank Margie’s neighbors, especially Gloria and Sonny Chrisman and Faye and Donald Broussard, as well as her friends Nally and Karo Simon and Anita Levy for the care and love that they showed to his mother.

A very special thank you to Vincent Funeral Home their kindness and compassion for arrangements.
