Mary E. Trahan

January 6, 1931 — February 3, 2022

Kaplan—A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, February  7, 2022 at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church honoring the life of Mary E. Trahan, 91, who died Thursday, February 3, 2022.  She will be laid to rest at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Cemetery with Reverend Mark Miley officiating the services. Serving as pallbearers will be Jeremy Primeaux, Brady Meaux, Todd Saltzman, Kade Stutes, Brandon Meaux, Lance Primeaux and Summit Saltzman.

In her earlier years, Mary worked in the cafeteria at Kaplan Elementary School cooking for the children. After retiring she stayed home but her love for cooking continued and she always made sure her family had a meal. She loved being with her family and friends whether it was to eat or play cards, but she especially loved having her grandbabies over. Being on the dance floor was her second favorite thing to do. She was a member of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, a Catholic Daughter and Eucharistic Minister at Mass as well as for the home bound. She served our community through cleaning the church and rectory for many years, assisting in numerous funerals by preparing the church beforehand and ringing the bells as the precession left, which she took great pride in. She was a great example in serving Our Lord.

She is survived by her son, Jimmy Charles Meaux and his wife, Vicky of Rayne; her daughters, Linda Marceaux and Laura Primeaux and her husband, Larry both of Kaplan; her daughter-in-law, Gloria Meaux of Kaplan; her six grandchildren, Jeremy Primeaux and his wife, Jill of Meaux, Kelly Potier and her husband, Martin of Lafayette, Brady Meaux and his wife, Tara of Kaplan, Leslie Saltzman and her husband, Todd of Kaplan, Brandon Meaux of Kaplan and Lance Primeaux and his wife, Catherine of Norfolk, VA; her 12 great grandchildren, Kade Stutes, Bailey Broussard, Kamren and Kane Primeaux, Hannah Langlinais, Mallory, Morgan and Addisyn Meaux, Summit and Brinley Saltzman and Logan and Sophia Primeaux; her two great-great grandchildren, Easton and Brance Langlinais; and her three sisters, Irene LeMaire of Gonzales, Gloria Domingue of Scott and Lola Gaspard of Perry.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Royce Meaux; her second husband, Newton Paul Trahan; her son, Paul Meaux; her grandson, Blake Royce Meaux; her great-great granddaughter, Elaine Claire Langlinais; her son-in-law, Marion Marceaux; her brother, Dallas Bertrand; her three sisters, Eula Dronet, Wilda Menard and Marilyn Broussard; and her parents, Aubrey Bertrand and the former Edma Roche.

The family would like to thank Heart of Hospice for their services, Dr. Randal Faulk for always being there when they needed, Dr. Ghyass Rizk for his care over the past 15 plus years and a special thank you to her caregivers Brenda Fuselier, Cindy Mire and Becky Abshire for the love, compassion, and care they gave her. They could not have done it without all the support.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Ave., on Sunday, February  6, 2022 from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary being prayed at 7:00 PM; Monday, February  7, 2022 from 9:00 AM until the procession departs for the church at 1:30 PM.
