Gueydan—A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church honoring the life of Mason Gerard Roy, 28, who died Wednesday, September 6, 2023. He will be laid to rest at Shell Beach Cemetery with Reverend Mitchell Guidry officiating the services. Serving as pallbearers will be his Papa, Jeb Linscombe, Cody Bourque, Clifford Overley, Anthony Levy, and Leroy “Chuppy” Begnaud. Honorary pallbearers will be Brayton Grow and Breigh Begnaud.
During his childhood Mason was a Boy Scout and alter server for St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Gueydan He graduated from St. Peter’s school in 2009. After St. Peter’s Mason attended Gueydan High School, where he played football and baseball until he graduated in 2013. Throughout his life Mason enjoyed hunting waterfowl, with his papa and uncle “Jeb” Zeb, which he then carried on with his stepson Brayton. Mason was an active member of Cajun Hunting Retriever Club in his teenage years, being chosen as a recipient of the Youth Retriever Program where he was given a dog to care for and train to hunt. He also enjoyed fishing with his godson, Brantley and niece Charleigh.
Most of all, Mason enjoyed spending his time with the love of his life and life partner, Michelle, Brayton, their dog Nike, and their cat Sage.
He is survived by his lifelong companion, Michelle Norman of St. Martinville; his stepson, Brayton Grow of St. Martinville; his parents, Geoffry Gerard Roy and Mary Mayer Roy of Klondike; his sister, Lauren Bourque and her husband, Cody of Winnie, TX; his nephew/godchild, Brantley Bourque; his niece, Charleigh Bourque; his maternal grandfather, Volly Mayer of Gueydan; his cat, Sage and his dog, Nike.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Charles G. Roy; his paternal grandmother, Anna C. Roy; and his maternal grandmother, Eva L. Mayer.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Gueydan, 311 Fourth St., on Friday, September 8, 2023 from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary being prayed at 7:00 PM; Saturday, September 9, 2023 from 8:00 AM until the procession departs for the church at 10:45 AM
