Merdie Richard Abshire

December 6, 1928 — September 29, 2020

Lyons Point—A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, October  2, 2020 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church honoring the life of Merdie Richard Abshire, 91, who died Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at Encore Healthcare & Rehabilitation.  She will be laid to rest at Abshire Cemetery with Reverend Neil Pettit officiating the services.

She is survived by her two sons, Daryl Abshire and his wife, Scarlett of  Schriever and Francis "Frankie" Abshire, Jr. and his wife, Lou of Kaplan; her two daughters, Junita Abshire Vincent and her husband, Robert of Iowa and Mona Abshire Fontenot and her husband, Ernest of  Carencro; her  10  grandchildren, Brock Abshire, Sydney Davis, Ada Vincent Louviere, Eric Vincent, Desiree Fontenot Carter, Rheanna Fontenot, Kristyn Miller, Adeline Broussard, Valerie Abshire, and Shayla Abshire; her 12 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Abshire, Sr.; her daughter, Anita Ann Abshire; her parents, Arthe Richard and the former Desiria Landry;  her  three brothers, Oday Richard, Adris Richard, and Ovey Richard; and her two sisters, Adula R. Smith and Myrta R. LeBeouf.

The family would like to send special thanks to Southwind Healthcare and Rehabilitation, Jared Langley, Gretchen John, Encore Healthcare and Rehabilitation, Corey Gatte and Grace Hospice.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Ave., on Thursday, October  1, 2020 from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary being prayed at 7:00 PM; Friday, October  2, 2020 from 8:00 AM until the procession departs for the church at 9:30 AM.
