Abbeville—Funeral services will be held at Vincent’s Funeral Home in Abbeville on Wednesday, April 19 at 2:00 PM honoring the life of Mildred Bodin Montet, age 84, who passed away Sunday, April 16, 2023 at Eastridge Nursing Home in Abbeville. She will be laid to rest at Bancker Cemetery with Deacon Bill Vincent officiating the services. Pallbearers will be Gordy Montet, Jackie Bennett, Justin Broussard, Brandon Bodin, Shawn Leblanc, and Chad Bodin. Honorary pallbearers will be her 5 brothers-John, Donald, Michael, Paul, and Keith Bodin.
Mildred was born in Abbeville, raised in Henry, then moved to Maurice where she spent the rest of her adult life. Mildred was a retired school teacher in Vermilion Parish- teaching at Pecan Island Elementary, Kaplan Elementary, and Maurice Elementary. Over the span of 26 years, she taught mostly kindergarten, but also grades 1, 2, 3, and 5. After retiring in 1994, she continued following her passion by substitute teaching throughout the parish for many years. She was an avid crafter (needlework, macrame’, decoupage) and seamstress, and even taught herself to do professional upholstery work. In the late 1980’s, she owned her own craft supply store in Maurice. Mildred loved to read and read over a thousand books in her lifetime. Her family meant everything to her, and they will miss her immensely.
She is survived by her loving children- Gordon “Gordy” Montet (Darlene) and Selina M. Bennett (Jackie); her grandchildren- Amber M. Broussard (Justin), Alaina Montet, and Jude Montet (Janie); her six great grandchildren; sister-Tina Leblanc and brothers- John Bodin (Ann), Donald J. Bodin, Michael J. Bodin (Cile), Paul Bodin (Donna), and Keith Bodin (Deanna), and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents-Clarence “Bee” Bodin and Ena Leblanc Bodin; her son- Brian K. Montet, daughter- Ellen R. Montet, and her brother-in-law, Michael Leblanc.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles St., on Wednesday April 19, 2023 from 9:00 AM until time of service in Vincent’s at 2:00 PM. A rosary will be prayed right before the service on Wednesday.
The family would like to thank the wonderful, caring staff at Eastridge Nursing Home for their compassionate care and kindness towards her.
