Nettie Louise Caldwell

July 9, 1933 — April 13, 2023

Nettie Short Caldwell, 89 of Abbeville, Louisiana, formerly of Stoney Fork, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 13, 2023, at her home following a brief illness.  She was born in Saylor, Kentucky on July 9, 1933, a daughter of the late Charlie and Cordelia Caldwell Short.  Nettie had attended Saylor Elementary School, Red Bird Settlement High School, and Stinnett High School.  She was a member of the Green Hills Community Church of Bledsoe, Kentucky.  Nettie had much love for her family and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.  She enjoyed day trips with her husband, gardening, quilting, crafting, collecting vintage clothing, being mum or mamaw, to her grandchildren, watching classic western movies, reading scripture, and talking daily by phone with her many beloved family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Stanley Caldwell; son, Stanley E. “Bo” Caldwell; brothers, Henry Short, Charlie Short, Jr., John D. Short and wife, Ida, Eugene Short, and Nelson Short; and sister, Sally Mae Wilson and husband, Oscar.

Nettie is survived by her daughters, Marcia V. Porter and her companion, Leslie J. Clark, of Abbeville, Louisiana, and Sherry Caldwell Omenson and her husband, Eling, of San Antonio, Texas; granddaughters, Chanda Owens of Ewing, Virginia, and Brittany Nolan and husband, Bill, of Harlan, Kentucky; grandsons, Brandon Porter and wife, Kristi of Broussard, Louisiana, and Cody Caldwell of Stoney Fork; great-grandchildren, Evalyn Owens, Emma Nolan, Madilynn Nolan, Ethan Porter, Aubrey Porter, and Adley Porter; sisters, Bessie Caldwell of Harlan, Kentucky, and Christine Daniel of Powell, Tennessee; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends; and her beloved fur babies, Gracie, Molly, Harley Quinn and Annabell.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Arnett &
Steele Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.

Graveside services will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 20, 2023, at the Honey Branch Cemetery in Middlefork.  Pallbearers will be Cody Caldwell, Leslie J. Clark, BJ Nolan, Brandon Porter, Anthony Short, and Brian Short.
