Olite Saltzman Guidry

December 6, 1927 — October 5, 2018

Kaplan—It is with great sadness and the heaviest of hearts that the family of Olite Saltzman Guidry, 90, announces her passing from this life into the arms of angels peacefully on October 5, 2018. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 PM on Monday, October 8, 2018 at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church. She will be laid to rest at Kaplan Cemetery with Reverend Mark Miley officiating the services.

She was born in Kaplan, LA to Minos and Oza A. Saltzman on December 6, 1927 and was one of five siblings.  Throughout the years Olite was always hardworking and striving to care for others.  She owned and operated the Trading Post in Mulvey for many years.  She also worked in hospitals, caring and helping others until she became a personal caregiver to individuals in need.  If there is one thing she enjoyed doing, it was taking care of others.  When she was not busy working, raising a family, or helping with her grandchildren, she loved drinking coffee and “veiller” with her friends, dancing to French music, and cooking feasts for holidays, Sunday dinners and special get-togethers.  She would light up a room with her loving smile, personality, and contagious laughter.  She truly believed that there are no strangers, only friends who have not yet been made. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her son, Uland Guidry, Jr. and his wife, Freda of Sweet Lake; two daughters, Darnell and her husband, Ken D'Augereau of Mulvey and Jackie and her husband, Joe Manuel of Maurice; one sister, Laura Henry of Gueydan; five grandchildren, Sonya Guidry, Angie Guidry, Cortney Campbell and his wife, Renee, Cy Perrin and his wife, Brynn, and Ciji  and her husband, Shane Romero; and eleven great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Uland Guidry, Sr., her parents, Minos Saltzman and the former Oza Abshire; three brothers, Linest, Shelton, and Whatley Saltzman; and one grandson, Trent Guidry.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Ave., on Sunday, October 7, 2018 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a rosary being prayed at 6:00 PM; Monday, October 8, 2018 from 8:00 AM until the procession departs for the church.
