Paul Gerald Broussard

A Mass of Christian Burial officiated by Reverend Clint Trahan will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, November 10, 2024, at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church honoring the life of Paul Gerald Broussard, 82, who passed away peacefully in his sleep. 

Paul Gerald Broussard was many things to many people. He was a loyal, faithful, and protective husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather. He was a brother, uncle and friend. He was quite a silly character. He was a business owner with the heart of a servant. He took great pride in serving the people of Kaplan either in the barber shop for 20 years or at the marble and granite shop for 42 years. He could tell us where almost anyone in Acadiana was laid to rest. He had a big heart and he took great care of everyone he knew whether it was family, friend, or customer. He never met a stranger. He was a master at the barbecue pit and the crawfish pot in his day!

When Meaghan was born, he took on the title he enjoyed most in life. From that day on he was Poppa to all. Nothing made him happier than to have all of the kids at the house or on vacation together but if a baby was on his lap, he was on top of the world. He often asked each one of us in turn "when are you going to give me another grandbaby / great grandbaby?". He was not a greedy man, but he always wanted more babies around to spoil. On any given day, Poppa could be found in the background at sports games or in his recliner watching football or a race. A random pocket dial from Poppa was sure to make the news in our family group text.

A visitation will take place at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church on Sunday November 10, 2024, from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM with a rosary being prayed at 1:30 PM. The burial will follow at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dora B. Broussard of Kaplan; two daughters, Paulette (Gaulman) Gaspard of Maurice and Dori (Todd) Starks of Broussard; one son, Rahn (Ashley) Broussard of Kaplan; one sister, Judith (Tim) Babineaux of Kaplan; two brothers, Harold (Marlene) Broussard of Kaplan and Tim (Jacqueline) Broussard of Harriman, TN; one sister in law, Marlene (Larry) Romero; four grandchildren, Meaghan (Casey) Meador, Mallory Gaspard, Tori (Cody) Broussard, and Drayke Broussard; five great grandchildren, Yardley Boudreaux, Karter Abshire, Hollis Boudreaux, Ben Boudreaux, Cooper Meador; and expecting Nora Faye Broussard.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Fernand Broussard and the former Mable Schexnaider; one son, Thad Broussard; one granddaughter, Marley Broussard; one brother, Ronald Broussard; and one sister, Rose Hardy.
