Percy Lormand, Jr.

Kaplan - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, December 13, 2018, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Kaplan, LA, honoring the life of Percy Lormand, Jr., 75, who died Saturday, December 8, 2018 at Abrom Kaplan Memorial Hospital.

Percy was born June 28, 1943 to Velma Broussard and Percy Lormand, Sr. in Abbeville, LA. He was the third of four children. He graduated from Kaplan High School in 1961 with academic and sports honors. He received a football scholarship to LSU to play for the Fighting Tigers where he was a team member for 2 years until a sports injury forced his departure.

He enlisted in the Louisiana National Guard in April of 1964. Upon completion of his basic training at Fort Polk (Company A, 1st Battalion, 3rd Training Brigade), he was honored for exemplary diligence and proficiency in the pursuit of military knowledge and was selected as the Outstanding Trainee of the Advanced Individual Training Cycle by his Major General. Per his Major General, he was credited with intelligence, perseverance, and a devotion to duty as well as being an outstanding example for other trainees in his class. He was Honorably Discharged as a Second Lieutenant Commissioned Officer in 1970.

Percy worked with his father in the construction business from a very young age. He became a Licensed General Contractor and was the President of Lormand Construction Company for over 20 years until his retirement. He helped found the KHS Athletics Supper Club and was a long-time supporter of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church and Maltrait Memorial Catholic School. He was an LSU Tiger at heart and a master chef to all who knew him. He also enjoyed reading, politics, and being with his family. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his five children, Jared Lormand and his wife, Bertha, Marty Lormand and his wife, Rachael, Percy (Poopy) Lormand III and his wife, Lori, Kitty Trahan and her husband, Josh, James Ashley Lormand and his wife, Yvette; his sisters, Patricia Serice and Joan Guidry; 13 grandchildren, Sloane Guidry, Spencer Lormand, Gabrielle DuBois, Rhemy Lormand, Rhys Lormand, Blaire Henry, Maghen Lormand, Percy (Chip) Lormand IV, Nicholas Lormand, Olivia Trahan, Luc Lormand, Hugh Lormand, and Beau Lormand; and his five great grandchildren, Ella Nunley, Evangelene Guidry, Ryder Dale DuBois, Merritt Henry, and Graham Guidry.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Istre Lormand; his parents, Percy Lormand, Sr. and Velma Broussard Lormand; and his sister, Mary Faye Lormand Pope.

Serving as pallbearers will be Percy (Poopy) Lormand III, James Ashley Lormand, Percy (Chip) Lormand IV, Nicholas Lormand, Rhemy Lormand and Rhys Lormand.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, LA on Thursday, December 13, 2018 from 8:30 AM until time of the service at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church at 2:00 PM. A rosary will be prayed at 11:30 AM.

The family would like to thank Dr. Randall Faulk, his staff, and the staff at MD Anderson who cared for him for over 10 years.
