Perlis J. Trahan

November 16, 1934 — August 3, 2023

Kaplan—Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, August  5, 2023 at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan honoring the life of Perlis J. Trahan, 88, who died Thursday, August 3, 2023 at Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center.  He will be laid to rest at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Cemetery with Deacon Bryan Istre officiating the services.

Perlis served Vermilion Parish for over 34 years as the Deputy Tax Assessor.  He served in the National Guard and also served many years in the Knights of Columbus in which he was graciously honored as a Grand Knight.  He also worked as a “cowboy” on many, many cattle drives with family and friends.  He absolutely loved riding his horse and was often referred to as that “ole cowboy”.

Perlis “Popee” was a kind and gentle soul.  He met no stranger and always had a memory and story to share with someone.  His love for his children, granddaughters, and three great grandsons was evident every day of his life.  He so enjoyed watching his great grandsons play baseball and football, he was their “oldest cowboy and biggest fan”.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Myrtis L. Trahan of Kaplan; his two sons, Kendrick Trahan and his wife, Mary Beth of Kaplan and Chris Trahan and his wife, Nancy of Abbeville; his daughter, Sandie T. Domingue and her husband, David of Kaplan; his three grandchildren, Lauren Hebert and her husband, Scot of Kaplan, Laina Saltzman of Kaplan and Brooke Domingue of Kaplan; his three great-grandsons, Isaac and Grant Saltzman and Carter Hebert; and his sister, Della Schexnayder of Breaux Bridge.

He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Mia "Kat" Trahan; his parents, Opha Trahan and the former Lula Trahan; and his brothers, Ritter, Leo, Marion and Lyman Trahan.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Ave., on Saturday, August 5, 2023 from 9:00 AM until the time of the services at 12:00 PM with a rosary being prayed at 10:30 AM.
