Pierre "Roy" Abshire

Kaplan—Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, January  5, 2022 at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan honoring the life of Pierre “Roy” Abshire, 82, who died Saturday, January 1, 2022 at his residence.  He will be laid to rest at Abshire Cemetery with Reverend Palthasar Arrockia Doss officiating the services. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons, Tristan, Travis, C.J., Colby, Eric, Jacob and Dra.

Pierre “Roy” Abshire was born on March 29, 1939. He was a strong loving husband and father who always put his family first. He served in the Army stationed in Germany for three years, and remained active for another year. He worked in the oilfield as a tool pusher and was a company man on land. After leaving the oilfield, he began his employment with Vermilion Parish Solid Waste Landfill, to spend more time at home with his family. He retired in 2011 at the age of 72. He enjoyed raising cattle, and to took great pride watching his sons follow in his footsteps. He will be laid to rest at Abshire Cemetery, with his daughter Melinda. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, may he rest in peace.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Esther T. Abshire; his two sons, Shayne Abshire and his wife, Angella and David Abshire and his wife, Bernadette; his three daughters, Angela Abshire, Rhonda Broussard and her husband, Brian and Christina Bourque; his ten grandchildren, Colby, Shayna, DesiRae, Devanie, David II, Eric, Jacob, Travis, C.J. and Tristan; his 23 great grandchildren; and his brothers, Roland Abshire and his wife, Shirley, Lovelace Abshire, Doris Abshire and Wilbert Matthews and his wife, Sally.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lenis Abshire and the former Enite Trahan; his daughter, Melinda Abshire; his brothers, Linus Abshire and Leo Abshire; and his sister, Hazel Hebert.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Ave., on Tuesday, January  4, 2022 from 11:00 AM until the time of the services Wednesday, January 5, 2022 with a rosary being prayed Tuesday January 4, 2022 at 6:00 PM.
