February 24, 1945 — September 2, 2020

Kaplan—A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, September 12, 2020 at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church honoring the life of Raymond Joseph Cormier, 75, who died Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at Lafayette General Medical Center.  He will be laid to rest at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Cemetery with Reverend Mark Miley officiating the services.

Raymond Cormier was born in Lafayette, Louisiana on February 24, 1945. He was the beloved husband, of Sylvia Kelly Cormier for 43 years. He was raised in Ridge, LA and lived throughout his life in Kaplan, LA. He was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He never met a stranger and his laugh was contagious.

Raymond was known for his outgoing, charismatic personality, always greeting loved ones with a smile and a kind word. His first love was for God and he kept him in the center of his life. He was a devoted family man always making it a priority to attend important events. He was the life of the party especially at family reunions and graduations. He looked forward to family gatherings bringing happiness and excitement to everyone. Raymond was an avid fisherman. He passed on this hobby to his children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He was a competitive pool player winning several competitions and awards. He loved to dance and when Zydeco music began to play, everyone knew it was time to clear the dance floor. He was a diehard LSU and Saints fan willing them to win each Saturday and Sunday. Raymond enjoyed coaching baseball, softball and football. Although winning was fun, his goal was for each of his players, boy or girl, to be successful, productive adults.

Through his life he taught us how to live, laugh a lot, love much, and forgive often. He taught us how to carry his mantle and keep his flame burning bright.

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Kelly Cormier; his children, Kelly Cormier of Kaplan, John Cormier of Kaplan, Joshua Cormier (Ora) of Kaplan, Michael Cormier (Yetta) of Abbeville, Raymond Lee Cormier (Eva) of Delcambre, Gene Clayton Cormier (Patty) of Crowley, Jimmy Cormier (Alma) of Crowley, and Donald Ray Cormier (Virginia) of Church Point; his sisters, Mary Kathelene Cormier of Lafayette, Margaret Bob (Robert Lee) of Lafayette, and Celina Broussard of Scott; his brothers, Roy Cormier (Verna) of Scott, Shelton Cormier (Anita) of Abbeville; his 36 grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Savannah Broussard Cormier, his father, Lennis Cormier; his brother, Paul Cormier; his daughter, Angela Cormier; his son, Ricky Anderson; and his granddaughter, Topeka Hollier.
