Kaplan—Renée Rose Marceaux Adams, 95, a beloved educator and cherished member of the Kaplan community, passed away peacefully Thursday August 1, 2024 at Gueydan Memorial Guest Home, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, passion, and love for her heritage and family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church honoring her life. She will be laid to rest at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Cemetery with Reverend Stephen Sahayaraj Irudayasamy officiating the services.
Visiting Hours will be observed at Vincent Funeral Home in Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Ave., on Saturday, August 3, 2024 from 8:30 AM until the procession departs for the church at 12:45 PM with a rosary being prayed at 11:00 AM.
Born and raised in Kaplan, Renée graduated from Kaplan High School in 1946. Her journey in education began at Southwest Louisiana Institute (now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette), where she graduated in 1951 with a degree in French and English Secondary Education.
Renée’s professional career started with a brief stint at the Kaplan Cattle Sales Barn from 1948 to 1949. Following her graduation, she served as a clerk for the Town of Kaplan before embarking on her long and impactful career in education. In 1950, she began teaching at Kaplan High School, touching the lives of countless students. Throughout her career, she also taught at E. Broussard High School and Maltrait Memorial Catholic School but returned to her alma mater Kaplan High School in 1968 and worked there until her retirement in 2001.
Renée’s love for travel took her to many places, with Hawaii being her favorite destination. Her passion for genealogy and Cajun culture was evident as she played a key role in composing the Cajun Culture curriculum. Music was another joy in her life; she enjoyed playing the piano and singing.
Renée’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Gueydan Memorial Guest Home and LAMM Hospice, especially Ashley Broussard, for their compassionate care.
Renée Adams' life was a testament to the power of education, the importance of preserving culture, and the joy of lifelong learning. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She is survived by her son, Wayne Adams of Kaplan; daughters, Debbie Duhon (Kurt) of Scott, and Madeleine Michel (David) of Houston, TX; two grandchildren, Brian Guidry (Adrienne) of Alexandria, and Ashley Warnick (Jason) of Katy, TX; one great-granddaughter, Olivia Renee Warnick of Katy, TX; and one soon-to-be great-grandson, Jackson Warnick of Katy, TX.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Emick P. Adams; her parents, Rene Marceaux and Florence Eleazar Marceaux; and one great-grandchild, Noah Guidry.
