Robert Paul Mayer, Sr.

Abbeville—Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, July 15, 2024 at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville honoring the life of Robert Paul Mayer, Sr., 91, who passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at Abbeville General Hospital.  He will be laid to rest at St. Paul Cemetery with Deacon William Vincent officiating the services. Honored to serve as pallbearers will be Joshua Mayer, Jonathan Mayer, Micheal Monk, Ryan Monk, Volley Mayer and Joseph Mayer.

Robert was born in Gueydan, LA and a resident of Abbeville, LA.  Some of his favorite times were spent with family and friends; especially relished watching wrestling with his brothers.  He found his passion learning how to repair things from a young age, and could often be found taking apart old motors and appliances and trying to put them back together.

He is survived by his son, Robert "Robbie" Mayer, Jr. and his wife, Marcelle of Delcambre, LA; daughter, Troylynette Monk and her husband, Steve of La Belle, TX; grandchildren, Shaina Mayer, Cassie Mayer, Michael Monk (Amanada), Joanna Monk, Ryan Monk, and Ashley Brandon; and brothers, Wallace "T-Boy" Mayer and Volly Mayer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Volcar Mayer, Sr. and the former Paula LeMaire Mayer; wife, Joyce Lege Mayer; son, Joseph "JP" Mayer; and siblings, Joseph Volcar Mayer, Jr., Lawrence Mayer, Margaret Height, Elizabeth Richard, Mildred Wilson, Mary Adeline Collings, Joseph Volcar Mayer, II, James "Jimmy" Mayer, Logan Mayer, Francis Dale Mayer, Roy Mayer, and Allen Mayer.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles St., on Monday, July 15, 2024 from 9:00 AM until time of services. A rosary being prayed at 1:30 PM.

Robert’s family would like to thank Abbeville General Hospital, and the nursing staff, and Hospice of Acadiana for their compassion and care generosity during Robert’s care.  Special thanks to Robert’s neighbors, Robert and Tina Broussard, and Derran Blanchard for aiding and assisting Robert.
