Abbeville—Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville honoring the life of Shelton Joseph Suire, 74. Mr. Shelton will have a private burial, at a later date. His four grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Shelton Joseph Suire – car and truck enthusiast, fishing and boating fanatic, and spirited lover of his family and friends – gained his angel wings, peacefully, in his home on June 17, 2022. As it was on the day of their union, he held the hand of his beautiful wife of 54 years.
Shelton was born on June 29, 1947 in the town of Abbeville, Louisiana, but planted his roots where his family would grow and thrive – in the small town of Erath, Louisiana. He was the son of the late Felton Suire and Eloise Romero Suire, of Delcambre, Louisiana. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Always baring a smile, he swung a hammer as a master carpenter for 40+ years.
When not on a construction site, you could easily find him spending time with the friends and family he loved dearly, watching a NASCAR race, casting a pole hoping to land a big catch, or detailing his vehicles. And, you could bet on it - there was most certainly an old country or zydeco tune playing on the radio. The closest thing to his passion for cars and trucks, was his affinity for music. How lucky are we to have had someone that makes saying goodbye so difficult?
Shelton is survived by his wife, Anna Rose LeBlanc Suire; two daughters, Tammy Broussard and her husband Scott, and Rhonda Neveaux and her husband Cory; four grandchildren, Lindsey Broussard, Hayden Broussard, Carrington Neveaux, and Cole Neveaux; siblings, Shirley Touchet and her husband Melvin, Elton Suire and his wife Sherry, Delores Broussard and her husband Bryan, and Sarah Hebert; godchild, Monica Suire; four nieces and nephews, Jeremy Touchet, Natasha Romero, Bobbie Hebert, and Jacob Hebert; and many great nieces and nephews. All of whom, he cherished.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Felton Suire and Eloise Romero Suire; niece, Kimberly Touchet Stelly; and nephew, Patches “Pat” Suire.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles St., on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 from 9:00 AM until time of service. A rosary will be prayed at 2:30PM.
The family would like to extend a very special acknowledgement to the staff of Acadian Hospice for their compassionate care of Mr. Suire, in his final days, and their comforting spirit of the family in this most difficult time.
As a testament to how much his family loved him, Shelton was also cared for by the two granddaughters, which he was extraordinarily proud of. Lindsey and Carrington are Juniors in the UL Lafayette Nursing Program and had just finished their first semester of clinicals. These young ladies went above and beyond in caring for the man they affectionately called “Pappy.” Despite their heavy hearts, they confidently took the reins in providing a peaceful, consolatory environment, as he transitioned home.
He will always walk beside us. Those we love don’t go away. They walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near – still loved, still missed, and very dear. Until we meet again……we will think about you always, we will talk about you still. You have never been forgotten and you never will. We will hold you in our hearts, and there you will remain, to walk and guide us through our lives, until we meet again.
