ABBEVILLE - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, February 28, 2025, at St. James Catholic Church in Esther honoring the life of Shirley Picard LaCour, 89, who passed away on February 26, 2025, at her residence. Reverend Daniel Picard will officiate at the funeral mass. Readers will be Claire Broussard and Christine LaCour. Gift bearers will be Marie B. Hebert, Leanne C. Pousson, and her great grandchildren. The eulogy will be given by Melissa LaCour.
Pallbearers will be Travis Clapp, David LaCour Jr., Michael LaCour, Walter Broussard, Mike Neveu, Sean Pousson, Marshall Thomas, and Blake Leger. Burial will follow at Esther Community Cemetery.
A visitation will take place at St. James Catholic Church in Esther on Friday from 9:00 AM to time of services. A rosary will be prayed at 10:00 AM on Friday.
Shirley was born on March 9, 1935 in Abbeville, LA. She married her high school sweetheart, Francis, and raised 3 children. Shirley was most passionate about her faith, her family, cooking, and painting. She and was a member of the Lay Carmelites since high school (along with her husband, Francis), and served as a Catechism teacher, Eucharistic Minister, Choir Director, and member of St. Anne’s Altar Society for many years. Shirley was a devoted supporter and volunteer of the May Festival for decades for Mount Carmel and Vermilion Catholic High School. She will be deeply missed by all who loved her.
She is survived by her son, David F. LaCour (Diane); two daughters, Louise L. Broussard (Edwin) and Nancy L. Clapp; ten grandchildren, Marie B. Hebert, Claire Broussard, Melissa LaCour, Travis Clapp, Christine LaCour, Leanne C. Pousson (Sean), Aimee LaCour, Leslie L. Doeseckle (John), David LaCour Jr. (Renee), and Michael LaCour (Maria); and six great-grandchildren, Mia Broussard, Lukas Hebert, Juliana Hebert, Kennedi O'Quinn, Dean Pousson, and James Doeseckle.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Francis William LaCour; parents, Aristide and Louise Picard, her son-law Noel Clapp, and her brother Ray Picard.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Community Hospice for the care they provided for their mother.
