Kaplan—A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 8, 2024 at St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church honoring the life of Shirley M. Schexnider, 77, who died Tuesday, February 6, 2024. She will be laid to rest at Petry Cemetery with Reverend Mark Miley officiating the services. Serving as pallbearers will be Terry Schexnider, Trey Schexnider, Jonah Schexnider, Ethan Bouillion, John Noah Foret, and Devin Adams. Honorary pallbearers will be Jaxon Newman, Colton Newman, Ryek Schexnider, and Aaron Schexnider.

Shirley had a passion for sports, with a particular love for the LSU Tigers. Her eyes would light up with excitement as she watched the games. Whether it was a nail-biting victory or a challenging defeat, Shirley remained a steadfast supporter, finding joy in the camaraderie and spirit of the game.

One of Shirley's greatest joys was keeping up with her grandchildren. Their triumphs became hers, and she celebrated their victories with unmatched pride. Whether attending their games, performances, or simply reveling in their accomplishments, Shirley was a constant pillar of support, showering them with love and encouragement.

Beyond her dedication to sports and family, Shirley was known for her selflessness and unwavering faith. A devoted servant of God, she spent her days in prayer, offering support to others. She also loved to stay connected with her family through daily calls that will be so missed. Her acts of kindness and compassion were felt far and wide.

To know Shirley was to love her. Her warm smile and compassionate spirit touched the lives of so many. Shirley's legacy is one of love, faith, and devotion, leaving a lasting impact on her family and community.

She is survived by her children, Lisa Foret (husband John Foret), Troy Schexnider, Ellis Schexnider (wife Donna Schexnider), Angel Newman (husband Josh Newman); 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four sisters, Cecile Suire, Hazel Langlinais, Rita Delcambre, and Lori Viator; and three brothers, Lawrence Bib Marceaux, Robert Bob Marceaux, and Larry Marceaux.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Noah Schexnider; daughter, Jill Mary Schexnider; parents, Velma Marceaux and Ellis Marceaux; stepmother, Winnie Marceaux; sister, Mary Guidry; brother-in-heart, Dallas Marceaux, Jr; and grandchild, Garrett Schexnider.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Ave., on Wednesday, February 7, 2024 from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary being prayed at 7:00 PM; Thursday, February 8, 2024 from 8:00 AM until the procession departs for the church at 10:45 AM.
