Shirley M. Petry

Gueydan - The Family of Shirley Petry is mourning the loss of their loved one who was called from her earthly life on June 5, 2019 at the age of 91. She was born to L.C. and Inez Melancon, on January 17, 1928 and lived in Klondike. She was married to Proford Petry who preceded her in death in 1994. They were lifelong residents of Gueydan and were the parents of five children, Nona (Bill) Zaunbrecher, Mike (Buffy) Petry, Allen (Debra) Petry, Sharon (Glen) Trahan, and Angel (Jack) Hair.

Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family. She will be missed, but never forgotten by her children and grandchildren, Tessa, April, Chris, Gavin, Derek, Ross, Scott, Taryn, Tori, John, and Jared; great grandchildren, Tagan, Rylee, Mia, Cade, Ahni, Demi, Jaxson, Billy, Bobby, Brees, Taylor, Mikey, Tyler, Brady, Seth, Ethan, Whitney, Ava, Carter, Cason, Skylar, Tori, and Zack.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Proford Petry; one grandson, Billy Zaundrecher; her parents, L.C. and Inez Melancan; one brother, Ira Melancon; one sister-in-law, Dorris Melancon; one sister, Jean Bowen Rogers; two brothers-in-law, Bill Bowen and Smokey Rogers.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 AM on Friday, June 7, 2019 at St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church. She will be laid to rest at Gueydan Cemetery with Reverend Corey Campeaux officiating the services.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Gueydan, 311 Fourth St., on Thursday, June 6, 2019 from 11:00 AM until 10:00 PM with a rosary being prayed at 7:00 PM; Friday, June 7, 2019 from 8:00 AM until 11:15 AM when the procession departs for the church.

The family wishes to extend a special appreciation to her loving care givers at Gueydan Memorial Guest Home and a special thanks to Lamm Hospice.
