Kaplan—A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church honoring the life of Stanford Melancon, 77, who passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at his residence. He will be laid to rest at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Cemetery with Reverend Mark Miley officiating the services.
Stanford worked as a supply boat captain in the oilfield for 50 years. He spent his retirement years enjoying sharpening knives and blades, tending to his crayfish pond and visiting with his friends.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Melancon of Kaplan; his two sons, Dannie Melancon of Wright and Jeffery Melancon and his wife, Jennifer of Abbeville; his three grandchildren, Heather, Hanah and Alec; his two great grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Nathan; his four brothers, Rayland Melancon of Gueydan, Gerald Melancon of Gueydan, Russel Melancon of Kaplan and Daniel Melancon of Shreveport; and his two sisters, Linda Pater of Tallahasse, FL and Laura Hebert of Kaplan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alexson Melancon and the former Viola LeBlanc.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Ave., on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 from 2:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary being prayed at 7:00 PM; Wednesday, January 4, 2023 from 8:00 AM until the procession departs for the church at 1:45 PM.
