Zula lived a long, beautiful life in the Kaplan area, living to the age of 100. She passed away peacefully, late Sunday evening at Maison Du Monde nursing home where she had been a resident for her last years.
From 1973 until her retirement in 1997 Zula was employed at Abrom Kaplan Memorial Hospital where one was always greeted by her smile in the purchasing department. She was well-known throughout the hospital and was very proud to show off her great-grand babies born at this Kaplan facility. Her prior employment (1960-1973) was sewing custom draperies at Sellers' Custom Fabrics. She was talented, altering wedding dresses and ball gowns as well. She enjoyed gardening, baking, and traveling (especially her gulf coast travels). She did love her life in the country. Her home always had beautiful plants and many blooming flowers. She was an admirable cook and enjoyed baking for her family and friends. There was always something freshly baked in her kitchen. She baked a really delicious carrot cake. Cookies, peanut brittle, fudge, tarts and Martha Washington balls were just a few of her specialties, which she eventually passed down the recipes to her grandchildren. She enjoyed canning as well and made great use of the vegetables from her husband's large garden. She was married to Harry, the love of her life for over 67 years. Together, they had four boys whom she adored and loved dearly. She was very hardworking and always kind. Zula was an admirable mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She truly was one very special lady.
She is survived by her four sons, Conley Frederick and his wife, Myrna, Richard Glenn Frederick and his wife, Cheryl, Robert (Bobby) Frederick and his wife, Charlene, and Daniel (Danny) Frederick; ten grandchildren, Dawn F. Vincent, Shauri Frederick, Brett Frederick, Denise Frederick, Dana and her husband, Woody Guidry, Derek Frederick, Brian Frederick-Gray and his wife, Susan, Rachel and her husband, Doug Hall, Tracey Frederick, and Dr. Sarah and her husband, Dr. Bryan Pickel; nineteen great grandchildren, Hailey, Tyler, Jayde, Jenah, Noah, Nathan, Ava, Emily, Isla, Alexandra, Davin, Sloan, Kaitlyn, Sydney, Henry, Julia, Daniel, Benjamin, and Annabelle; three great-great grandchildren, Tripp, Evelyn, and Mason; and her godchild, Ronnie Hebert.
Gone before her was her husband, Harry Frederick; her parents, Lionel Hebert and the former Edolie Boudreaux; her sister, Audrey Jerome; both brothers, Iris "Pep" Hebert and Ewell J. Hebert, her grandson, Ryan Conley Frederick; and Tootsie, her dearly loved dog who was a treasure to spend time with.
